Artist / Tsang Chui Mei

Tsang Chui Mei (b. 1972) born in Hong Kong. She received her Bachelor's and Master's degrees in Fine Arts from the Chinese University of Hong Kong in 1996 and 2004 respectively. In 2015, she was selected to participate in a three-month residency program at the Cité Internationale des Arts in Paris, France, where she pursued her artistic endeavours.

Tsang has always been dedicated to painting, with her main theme being "scenery". In recent years, she has frequently used basic painting elements such as colour blocks and lines to depict the disharmonious states of natural environments, such as scattered debris, crumbling rocks, and sediment-filled skylines, cliffs, or coastlines. Her works incorporate the interplay between positive and negative spaces, the spontaneous traces of automatic techniques, layers of materials on the canvas, and erasure techniques, all of which draw inspiration from Western abstract painting. In addition, her descriptions of space and layout on flat surfaces are influenced by the placement of different perspectives in traditional Chinese painting, resulting in multi-perspective compositions. In recent years, she has further employed techniques such as contrasting, vibrant or sombre colours, and the entanglement of the real and imaginary to present a psychologically ambiguous space. Tsang's works are held in the collections of the Hong Kong Museum of Art, the Hong Kong Arts Centre, the Robert H.N. Ho Family Foundation, The Murray, Cathay Pacific Airways, and private collectors.
