Exhibition statement
Realism — an eternal landscape that traverses the history of art. It is not only a reverence and imitation of nature, but also demonstrates the artist's unique subjectivity and creativity. Realism art nourishes the vitality of art and flows through countless generations.
Touch Gallery once again proudly presents realism artworks by outstanding Asian artists who delve deeply into the meaning of realism and each other's distinct expressions.
Artist Akifumi Okumura explores the connection between people and animals to reconsider the microcosm of human society. Wong Chak Hung combines magazine covers and textiles with images of animals, allowing the audience to combine their personal circumstances with the image to create a new vision.
Steven Tang created a series of realistic food paintings using coloured pencils that seem to be full of vitality. They have a strong sense of realism and are even more detailed than an actual image. Grace Mak utilises a series of realistic paintings and installation art that allow the audience to contemplate the potential of one understanding their actual self in society. Mak Ka Yan's painting of the Goldfish Street scene acts as a window into her inner world, allowing the audience to have a glimpse of the artist's inner world. Tang Shue Fung used individuals surrounded by his life accidentally to capture the essence of the era. Liu Siu Him draws inspiration from Hong Kong's cultural traditions and legends to create imaginary and visually stimulating toy scenarios.
Realism art is no longer a representation of reality, but rather the artist's profound understanding and self-expression of the real world. Every feature and substantial form appears to be radiating new vitality, conveying the artist's distinct perspective.
We are delighted to invite you to visit Tai Kwun Touch Gallery to discover the mysteries of realistic art, to experience the affecting landscape, to witness the sublimation of realism in contemporary times, and to appreciate the boundless elegance it gives to life.
